I hate medicine.

Two summers ago I read parts of Kevin Trudeau’s Natural Cures book. He talked about different medicines and medical procedures that harm your body. He states that there are tons and tons of natural remedies that can “cure” your illnesses. He also reveals the deep dark secret about our world, and how the FDA and the pharmaceutical industry don’t mean anything but business when it comes to our “health.” That business is, da da da dunnnn, MONEY!

Nevertheless, I abandoned medicine long before laying my hands on that book. And today, why am I talking about this—fox news has recently done a story about pain relievers such as Tylenol, and Advil. Apparently, these two brands will be carrying a “bolder warning” about the risk of severe liver damage and or stomach bleeding. As a matter of fact, products containing acetaminophen, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Tylenol, will also be bolding their warnings. Other drugs like Bayer AG’s aspirin products and Wyeth’s Advil and Johnson & Johnson’s Motrin will also be bolding warnings about the risks of stomach bleeding.

Someone shed some light on me. How can our society care more about MONEY then the well being and health of our nation? When it comes to natural cures, most people I have talked to about the issue throw the idea out the window and argue that if there were such natural cures, why wouldn’t the FDA make it public…it’s only right! Well, I don’t have a clue, but I do know that I’m gonna let my immune system do it’s thing and if that isn’t enough—I’m gonna consider every natural remedy before I even think about taking any for of over the counter drug!

We are being visited...

What on earth, better yet, what in the universe?! An Apollo 14 astronaut told a group of UFOlogists Monday, that aliens are not a myth and the government needs to disclose their findings. “’It is now time to put away this embargo of truth about the alien presence,’ Edgar D. Mitchell, who made the longest moonwalk in history, told those attending a conference in Gaithersburg, MD.” Mitchell emphasized that he wants the government to open up and the Paradigm Research group that held the conference also demanded that president Obama’s administration release all information concerning extraterrestrial beings.

Stephen Basset of PRG said “If it does not disclose, by the end of May - this is not a threat or anything, you don't threaten the United States government, they're heavily armed ... the PRG has an enormous and substantial network, and quite a bit of documentary evidence connected to this, particularly politically ... and we are going to be extensively putting that out to the media, and we're just going to make it as difficult on them as possible.” The knowledge of extraterrestrial beings in not only known by the US, but by other nations, and if the US doesn’t disclose their information to the public, other nations just might beat them to it. Many have been forbidden to mention their encounters with UFOs but with recent release in 2008, Britain declassified a batch of Ministry of Defense files identifying flying objects. With this, other people who have lived in fear of speaking about their encounters have formerly been able to talk about them. Within the Washington Times article, it also discusses how many people about been abducted for extraterrestrial beings. It is said that there are chips within their bodies that the “aliens” can monitor us humans.

Okay really, what the hell?! I don’t know how to take any of this! I mean when I was little I thought I “saw” stuff in the sky…but I was little. My goodness, May is just around the corner.

Your Body is a Wonderland

“Don’t swallow the seeds of the watermelon or it’s going to start to grow in your stomach.”

You know, at one point of my life, I sincerely thought that was true. I made sure I avoided swallowing any watermelon seed, or any seed for that matter. BUT, once, or thrice I slipped. To my surprise nothing ever happened. From that point on, I can say that I consumed a fair share of seeds in my life will no side affects.

Sadly, in Russia this was not the case for 28-year old Artyom Sidorkin. According to Mosnews.com, Sidorkin went to the hospital after complaining about severe pain in his chest area and the coughing up of blood. The doctors found that he had a tumor in his lung and immediately thinking that it was cancerous, they decided that the next step would be to remove it.

Upon the removal of the tissue, doctors found that the tumor was not cancerous at all. In fact, the tumor had a 5 centimeter branch which was later determined to be a little fir. The needles of the plant were poking at his lung, causing him to cough up blood. The doctors also concluded that Sidorkin could not possibly swallow a 5 centimeter plant and that somewhere along the way he had to have either inhaled a small bud or swallowed a fir seed.

CRAZY! I guess there’s a first for everything, poor Sidorkin. But on the bright side, thank goodness it was no watermelon.

For my gray-haired lover

The scientists have considered studying your “issues” too. A European team of scientists have studied why our hair turns gray. Sadly to say, it has nothing to do with wisdom, I know a stab in the heart. It does have to do with hydrogen peroxide though.

“Going gray is caused by a massive build up of hydrogen peroxide due to wear and tear of our hair follicles.” Our hair has a natural pigment known as melanin, which is responsible for hair color, skin color, and eye color. The hydrogen peroxide blocks this synthesis within our hair follicles. Our bodies produce a limited amount of hydrogen peroxide, and as we gain our years of life, we eventually produce more and more hydrogen peroxide, hence a build up. Due to everyone’s genetics being different, some people will notice their gray hair earlier in life. However, it has been said that Asians experience gray hair at a much slower rate then Caucasians---I beg to differ from my experience, but I am no scientist, rather an observer.

On the bright side, gray hair is said to be a side-effect of long living, so if you have gray hair at a young age or at an older age, cheers to you for showing a sign of good health. Flaunt it.

"Kid Hulk"

In Michigan, 3 year old Liam (sp) has a rare genetic condition which gives him extreme muscular strength. In this video Foxnews refers to him as a little hulk. Apparently he is very strong and can do things which involve muscles that most men cannot do. At just two days old he could stand! At three he is lifting up furniture and eating six whole meals a day. This kid even has a 6-pack that is well defined. Aside from his defined abs, he is not over weight nor does he look different from kids who do not have this Myostatin related Muscletrophy.

There have only been 100 recorded cases of people with this genetic condition. It was first discovered in beef cattle mice in the 90s. The first human case was brought up in 2000, but the first recorded case in medical literature wasn’t available until 2004.

By studying his condition, scientist might be able to mimic his condition and create a drug that can be at the aid with people who suffer from muscle wasting disorders. Dr. Katrina Firlick stated that muscular wasting is most commonly seen in cancer, aids, and even aging, but if there was a drug that could mimic Myostatin related Muscletrophy we could furthermore advance in our health.

The obvious is that in turn, if the drug were developed, there will be a possibility that it could also be abused. Steroids, for example, can only a lot for 10-15 percent more muscular growth, but the odds are still there.

Quite frankly, I think the human body is amazing, and until today, I didn’t know “hulk” capabilities were even possible. I just wish this kind of news along with other health updates were made more available for the public eye.

Shows just how creative our God is and that anything is possible.

In Australia, a boy of the age of ten died due to an ear infection. It was reported that the house he was living in was no where near healthy standards. Apparently it reeked with the stench of feces, rotten food, sweat, and urine. There were layers and layers of garbage around the house, and yet a grown adult who was the boy’s mother and his sister lived there as well. The boy was complaining about his ear and he had a fever as well as a bloody ear. He was taken to a local health clinic where they suggested that he be taken to hospital for immediate and proper treatment. Instead of taking the advice, his mother chose to take him home and give him antibiotics she saw fit. Jared Roberts died twenty minutes later.
For goodness sake!
First of all, motherly instincts—take your kid to the damn hospital for treatment. And second, you have two kids to be concerned with, why the hell is your house in that condition?! I can’t imagine anyone that would allow their living space to get so out of hand and see hands on that it is affecting their family.
Where are our priorities? Where do we draw the line between wellness and laziness? Things seem to be going downhill these days. There needs to be a change, and like the first blog on this site… the changes starts with us.

Domestic abuse occurs in all walks of life. With the recent event of Chris Brown and Rhianna proves that celebrities are not exempt. It remains a "secret" case everyone wants to know about, but the media keeps the public informed on their every move. It's not something that's to be taken lightly though. Domestic abuse is real and can be fatal. The sad part is that not every if any incidents are reported. With the industry that both parties are from, there is minimal respect for women. In the fashion and music industry, it is both direct and indirect that males are dominant and women are merely objects.

Both Chris Brown and Rhianna are both successful musicians, they are both human and make mistakes. With their social status and wealth, they aren't treated as regular citizens, but if their situation gets worse, it could end up like O.J. Simpson and Nicole Brown. Being a celebrity has its perks, but "if you do the crime, you need to do the time." Unfortunately, Chris Brown probably won't.

All around our dear great world.
In London, 14 people arrested for knife possession within the past two weeks.
In Glasgow, teens from Real Calton Tong gang fear walking past a sport complex because of the fear of being stabbed to death.
In Durham, a driver found a woman dead near Ellis road.
In Torquay, the stabbing of a 43-year old man led to the arrest of a 20-year old hero who returned from Iraq.
In Johannesburg, four schoolboys were charged with the stabbing of a 17-year old Greenside High school student.
In Honolulu, another stabbing of an innocent victim occurs a month after stabbings at Koko Head.
What on earth is going on! This time, I’m focusing on stabbings because it’s just too close to home. What is the drive, what is their drive? Is it something within the human brain that demands absurd behavior or the need to satisfy violent acts? These crimes are as random as they can get; happening to all sorts of people performed by all kinds of statuses. Thank you captain obvious—schoolboys, heroes, gangs, The Unstable. Is there one particular way that we can address this? Are we to watch out for suspicious acts and be the watchdogs for ourselves? Are we to warn others of harmful acts? Who are we suppose to tell, the one right beside us? How are we to be sure that that very one beside us is not the one who will harm us? Or is it us that will inflict harm upon someone else?
Whatever happened to the good old days when we could walk into a store for ten minutes, having left our car unlocked without the fear of someone robbing our vehicle, let alone stealing the entire thing? Whatever happened to the good old days when we could take our families to parks without the notion of having some prick fuck preying on our loved ones? Whatever happened to the good old days when we could take a morning job without being harassed? Whatever happened to the good old days when we could go to sleep peacefully without having our kids hear the sound of a dying man who had just been severely beaten?
Whatever happened to the good old safe days?
Be courteous to all, intimate with few, and let those be well tried before you give them your confidence.
Pray because all that’s left is to…
Let Go, and Let God.

Undying Loyalty

Since it is Softball Season for Chaminade, I thought it would be appropriate to blog about everything that is going on with baseball. No, I am not talking about Spring Training and its almost time to start buying peanuts in the bleachers, or heckling at the opposing team, or even the smell of the fresh cut grass, I am talking Barry Bonds and his personal trainer who is keeping his mouth shut. "Greg Anderson, one-time youth baseball teammate of, personal trainer to, forever silent soldier for and likely legal savior of Barry Lamar Bonds." I read this in a Yahoo Sports report about how Greg Anderson won’t talk, won’t testify and won’t cooperate with authorities in a case about Barry Bonds. Anderson has done more than a year in prison for refusing to testify against his long time friend.
This article has caught my attention because Federal prosecutors have won about 95% of their cases due to the rush of the witnessess to cooperate to lessen their penalty or so they can get off the hook. This man, Mr. Anderson, has gone in and out of jail, has been on house arrest and he still hasn't cracked. I would say that he is being more than a good friend to Barry Bonds. Maybe he really does take the word friendship to heart, or maybe he knows if Bonds gets off, then that could mean big bucks for Mr. Anderson for keeping quiet. And just to throw this in, Barry Bonds isn't that popular with fans, media, or anybody really, but no matter what people think of him or even Mr. Anderson, the level of loyalty here is something to behold. Right or wrong, I look at the loyalty to the friendship that Mr. Anderson has towards Barry Bonds and am in awe of it. When it comes down to it, jail did not break him, house arrest did not break him, and the Feds still haven't broke him, it truly is an undying loyalty.

successful advertising.

New week, new blog, and this week I just so happen to be attracted to an ad.
Ever heard of a Himalyan Rock Salt Lamp? It's a natural salt rock from the Himalayas that ranges from shades of pinks to peach. They can be lit with a light bulb or by candle light. With the different sites that I visited, they always get good reviews for their "stunning effect."
But here's what sold me..
Apparently they offer homeopathic health benefits that have been scientifically proven. Owners of these salt lamps claim that the air in their homes are easier to breath and that it has a cleansing effect. It is said to be formed 250 million years ago when the light and energy of the dun dried up the original primal ocean. It is completely pristine and natural and identical to the composition of the ancient sea. It also contains 84 minerals essential to our body, 74 of which are actually found in the human body. Salt lamps have been recommended for people with respiratory illness and or asthma because the rock removes moisture from indoor air which eliminates bacteria, mold spores, and other respiratory allergens. It in turn makes a great ionizer. They are also used for the treatments of stress, insomnia, body-aches, arthritis, muscle spasms, skin conditions and fatigue.
Pretty amazing if you ask me!
In any case.. I saw an advertisement for this unfamiliar "Himalayan Rock Salt Lamp" and I've done my research... it's official, I want one.

Land Down Under

Australia, Australia, Australia.
In today's paper there was an update about the wildfires in Australia. Apparently, deadly firestorms sweep across Australia every few years and this article said that the death toll for the wildfires will surpass 200.
I have never been to Australia, so the landscape and environment are strictly from my imagination and influence of few pictures. I began to wonder just how strong Australia must be as a country. If people are dying left and right from natural disatsters, it must bring Australia close together as a nation. Being from an island, whenever we are hit with strong-winded storms and typhoons, our community keeps us together and gives even more endless support to one another. We bring the life back to our island together.
I was also considering the latest , "Best Job in Queensland." This job is in search of a caretaker of the islands of the Great Barrier Reef. The website says that this job is specifically aimed at bringing the tourism back to Queensland. There are a few responisibilities pertaining to feeding the fish in the ocean, checking the mail, and blogging about their duties and stay as a caretaker.
The applicants are to apply via online and start the job on June 1. More information can be found at http://www.islandreefjob.com/?cmpid=66.
My point with this bit of information is since tourism is not thriving as much as it used to, the community of australia must be strong despite both wildfires and tourism decline altogether. Thumbs up Australia.

It's official, I'm a news-reader-regular, and I'm proud.
Monday's paper--Koko head stabbings.
Before this weeked I never, in my entire life heard about Koko head. Diamond head maybe, but not Koko head. Friday night I had been invited, moreso, dared to hike Koko head. My "compadres" said it'd be great fun and a nice jot of a work out. WRONG! It was good fun at the top and walking back to the car, and a hell of a work out PLUS life scares because of the height differential and steepness. I thought I'd only hear about Koko head when remeniscing about '09 memories.
Wrong again. Come Monday, Stabbing at Koko head was right there, whaabam front page headline. I seriously couldn't believe me eyes. I began to read the article, one man, two men STABBED at Koko crater?! I saw that crater at the top of my hike! There was a thorough discussion about the rim of the crater and whether or not we would like to venture out and hike that as well. And then I read about a stabbing. I don't like that kind of stuff. One, panic attack about the next time I decide to hike somewhere. Two, who wants to panic anyway?! Three, there are some "interesting" people on this island--and i've always been told not to judge people--but as of monday, I will judge but for my safety alone.
It kind of brings you back to reality--to know that yes, you might just be out and about trying to have a good time..but always be cautious of your surroundings. Sometimes it's just best to go with your gut feelings--like the guy on his cell phone "I was on the phone and this guy was just in his underwear--I knew something wasn't right......."
In all seriousness, thank God everyone was safe and that despite the crazy things some of us resort to, there are still those of us who will do anything in our power to be at the aid of someone in need.

Be mindful and limit mindlessness.

What on Earth..

Two things that are on my mind:
1. Digibooks and the whole technology overload on our society.
2. The Family of 7 shot to death in L.A.

Choice number two it is.
In today's (1/28/09) Honolulu Advertiser, you can find an article about the family of 7 who were shot to death. According to the paper, the Lupoe family had been shot as a means of escape due to the fact that both Ervin and Ana Lupoe, parents of their 5 children, had recently been fired from their hospital jobs. A letter was sent to a local tv station informing them that the couple had lost their job and that they weren't going to leave their children in someone else's hands. The tv station then called the police and they too had received a phone call pertaining familiar details. Yesterday in Willmington, CA, police responded to the call to find the Lupoe family dead from gun shots to their heads. Enough with the details, I'm sure you can find the article online...

What I want to know is why? Why would anyone do that?! I've been thinking this one through and I thought I'd try to find reason.

Maybe they were just so overwhelmed with the stress that killing themselves and their family just seemed to be the best option. Maybe, just maybe they didn't want their kids to have to deal with such hardships when they got older, if, IF they were given that opportunity. Perhaps their first thought was to leave this world, just the two of them alone--and the thought of someone else caring for their children was just out of the question. Maybe they considered that there are people in this world that could harm them, nah maybe they forgot that they themselves were the number one choice when it came to anyone that could harm them.

What were they thinking damnit?!

It's official, I might have some form of reason--but logic, LOGIC is out of the question.

For the betterment of all of us, "Get help rather than resort to violence."

O B A M A, nah maybe I'll touch on that come 2012.

Maybe I'll elaborate on that one postal worker--Hull//maybe I won't.
I'd rather talk about that man who opened the emergency door on that Delta flight.
What the hell was he thinking?! Actually that's closer to home than I thought bc secretly, I've always wondered when those doors would be opened if there were no emergency. And mr. man had the balls to do it. Sure it'll probably land his donkeybutt in jail but hey--now we all know. What's up with planes these days anyway? Thank God all those people on that one flight made it out safely. I wonder what that captain was thinking before he saw the plane. Think he was busy? Think he was checking the time or thinking about a loved one? Think he was praying? I wonder, I wonder, I wonder.

Ever watch that one show on Dateline--How to Catch a Predator or something? That show truly opened my eyes. I remember when I first got my hands on all of the online instant messenger things. I wanted to go into chat rooms and talk to people all over the place! But this one night a friend and I were logged on with an account that we had just made up. This random "random" person had opened a chat box with us and started talking to us in an uncalled for sexual manner. It was that very night that I said sayonara to online chat spots. I had no business doing any of that stuff in the first place! Back to the show and how it opened my eyes--had I continued to sneak around and try to be a grown girl, who knows what kind of danger I could've wandered into. I share no sympathy for the men on that show, as a matter of fact I hope they along with all the other prickheads our there end up behind bars--those curs. I'm glad I have parents that checked on my little behind--even when I went on the computer at odd hours of the night--hello computer history. And for all those times where I got in trouble for logging on to chat rooms, if only I had received a harsher punishment. Thank you mom&pop.
